"Dear Butch-
Joan and I just wanted to thank you for an absolutely wonderful tour on Thursday August 4th. The flight to Admiralty Island was amazing and our time spent watching the bears was even more awe inspiring.

Your knowledge of the bears and the local ecosystem added to what was already a once in a lifetime experience. To be able to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat was the highlight of our trip.I've attached what I believe to be our best picture from the trip, which was a difficult decision given the numerous pictures we got. Feel free to use it on your website (although it may limit the effectiveness of your disclaimer about the trip not being one where you will get photos of bears pulling salmon out of the river).

Once again thanks for providing us with a truly incredible trip and an opportunity to escape the crowds of the large cruise ship.

Subject: Thanks for hosting the most incredible day!

Just a quick note to let you know how much we appreciated the Pack Creek Bear Country visit.  It was the perfect ending to our already amazing  visit to Alaska. The float plane ride was so scenic and spectacular - it was worth taking the tour just for that!  I greatly appreciate your knowledge of the shorebirds - this was not information I had been able to get elsewhere.  And what can we say about the bears?! Incredible! How phenomenal to be able to watch them come and go, catch fish, teach their cubs... Thanks for being such a great host.

We have attached a picture of Mocha with her cubs.

Bear Country Tour

An exciting 3-hour tour for individuals who want to experience the awe and majesty of the "Fortress of the Bears."

Let experienced bush pilot and guide Butch Laughlin choose the best possible bear viewing option from among several locations on Admiralty Island, or the secluded wilds of Chichagof Island. Once there Butch will lead you on a wilderness trek, making sure your every sense is tuned to the presence of the great Alaskan Brown Bear who call this country home.

A note about Wildlife Photography:
Please be informed that this is absolutely and positively not a tour where you can stand at the water's edge and snap a picture of a salmon jumping up a waterfall into a bear's mouth. If this is what you have your heart set on please don't sign up for our trip. While our tours can and often do provide excellent opportunities for wildlife photography, such an experience is not guaranteed. Wildlife sightings, proximity to the animals, lighting conditions, and weather are ultimately beyond our control. Furthermore the management of the Tongass Forest, as well as our own philosophy as wildlife guides, places a greater emphasis on not harassing or displacing wildlife over picture taking activities. The beach viewing site at Pack Creek, for instance, is approximately 60 yards from the creek itself. This is necessary to allow the bears to freely access a vitally important food source without being displaced by our presence. Therefore a good lens for distance photography is advised as you will not always be allowed to get closer for a better shot. But more important than bringing the right equipment is to come prepared with realistic expectations and a desire to truly experience the landscape and wildlife, not just document it. While we hope you end up with some great pictures, we also hope you have at least one moment when you lower your camera to look around and just go, "Wow!"
