Alaska Fly'n'Fish
Charters is an equal
opportunity provider whose services require participants to be capable
of accessing the floatplane unaided and traveling over uneven ground
without
assistance. In particular our bear viewing and fishing tours require
that
participants be capable of a moderate amount of physical
activity.
This includes climbing in and out of the floatplane; stepping down
approximately
18” from the float into shallow water and wading a few step to shore;
walking
a minimum of ½ mile over uneven ground; and spending several
hours
outdoors in a remote site without amenities such as shelters, benches,
or bathrooms.
A
note about Wildlife Photography: Be informed
that these are absolutely and positively not tours where you can stand
at
the water's edge and snap a picture of a salmon jumping up a waterfall
into a bear's mouth. If this is what you have your heart set on please
don't sign up for our trip. While our tours can and often do provide
excellent
opportunities for wildlife photography, such an experience is not
guaranteed.
Wildlife sightings, proximity to the animals, lighting conditions, and
weather are ultimately beyond our control. Furthermore the management
of
the Tongass Forest, as well as our own philosophy as wildlife guides,
places
a greater emphasis on not harassing or displacing wildlife over picture
taking activities. The beach viewing site at Pack Creek, for instance,
is approximately 30 yards from the creek itself. This is necessary to
allow
the bears to freely access a vitally important food source without
being
displaced by our presence. Therefore a good lens for distance
photography
is advised as you will not always be allowed to get closer for a better
shot. But more important than bringing the right equipment is to come
prepared
with realistic expectations and a desire to truly experience the
landscape
and wildlife, not just document it. While we hope you end up with some
great pictures, we also hope you have at least one moment when you
lower
your camera to look around and just go, "Wow!"
The extremely customized nature of our tours, and the speed with
which our daily schedules can become fully booked, makes on-line
reservations
impractical for our company. Instead, this page is designed to
help
you provide the information we need so that we can communicate with you
about potential tours as efficiently as possible.
Please read this page carefully and
then send us an email with
the
5 (five) points of information requested.
TYPE OF ACTIVITY YOUR PARTY IS INTERESTED IN: Bear viewing,
freshwater
fishing, glacier flightseeing, or air taxi drop-off and pick-up service
to remote locations. If you are interested in a tour that combines more
than one of these activities please let us know that also.
THE EXACT DATE (OR DATES) YOU WILL BE IN JUNEAU:
Cruiseship passengers please note that we will need to know the arrival
and departure times of your ship in Juneau. Any other clients
with
time limitations that need to be accommodated should let us know also.
THE NAME OF EACH PERSON IN YOUR PARTY, AND THEIR WEIGHT:
Client weight information is important to safe operation of the
aircraft.
If you do not know the exact weight of someone in your party your best
approximate guess is at least helpful.
ANY PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS THAT MAY AFFECT ANYONE IN YOUR PARTY’S
ABILITY
TO GET AROUND OR FULLY PARTICIPATE IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:
In particular our bear viewing and fishing tours require that
participants
be capable of a moderate amount of physical activity. This
includes
climbing in and out of the floatplane; stepping down approximately 18”
from the float into shallow water and wading a few step to shore;
walking
a minimum of ½ mile over uneven ground; and spending several
hours
outdoors in a remote site without amenities such as shelters, benches,
or bathrooms.
YOUR MAILING ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER: We often find that a
phone
conversation can be more efficient in gathering information and
answering
questions than e-mailing.
Feel free to call us at our home office 907-790-2120
